He has been suspended from school twice for smoking which also lead to an expulsion.I had to put him in a private school. He says he gets the cigarettes from friends or buys them from the store himself.I'm so disappointed in his refusal to get on the right road.I search his pockets %26amp; room each time I see him.He sneeks out the house when I'm not looking. He has no privleges left to take away. I'm so stressed out from always screaming and arguing with him.Any suggestions? What should I do as a parent? My 16 year old son refuses to quit smoking?
i dont know..but im sorry that youre stressed about that. im sure my mom would be too. youre a good mom for caring but if he cared about your feelings he would stop maybe if u tell him directly how u feel he might quit! good luck. but if i was u i wouldnt send him to a boot camp because u get more with sugar than u do with..yeaWhat should I do as a parent? My 16 year old son refuses to quit smoking?
It's an addiction it's not as easy as just quit. I'd cheack him into a rehab center wear he can get the real help he needs instead of being suspended and kicked out of schools for a problem that will take time and effort to solve. I would also recomend buying those nicotine patches/gum. They usually help to some extent.
when my son tried this i told him if he did not quit i was going to pull his arms off and beat him to death with them it worked for me he know i was serous about the beating my kids will not smoke
Let's see...
I guess you could be extreme and make him switch school to start over...
You could force him to see a counselor or psychologist who is trained in these types of things.
You could bribe him like 'If you just attempt to use this patch and quit smoking, and if you dont smoke for an entire 3months, i will buy you-a car, a really expensive electronic, like a video game console or wide screen tv or computer...something really cool that he never thought you'd buy him.
If you offer a bribe, he wont feel like such a geek losing to his mom. Not to be harsh.
But you're right to want him to quit, not only because its so unhealthy but also for social reasons. I'm a 16 year old girl and i know my friends and i will be looking at a boy thinking hes totally hot and then he takes out a cigerette and we all imediatly lose interest. Maybe you could point that out to him, its a scummy thing to do. It just is.
send him to juvie he's doing something illegal.
Boot Camp.
I kind of did the same thing to my parents. Why? Because they made such a big deal about it. I'm not saying that it's not a big deal because I know it is and I know they made such a big deal out of it because they cared, but I to was 16 and would do anything to prove to them that they could no longer control me. One idea I have that my parents didn't do with me is sit down with your son and talk to him. Don't yell, don't try and force anything, just talk. Tell him why your so concerned about him smoking, maybe inform him what it can do to him in the long run, etc. Ask why he smokes and see if you can come to a solution that will please both of you. Hope this helps :)
if this is the worst thing he does as a teenager well aren't you lucky,he could have been doing drugs, steeling cars, drinking,in a gang instead.
My son smoked at 16,we told him he had to fund it him self.they all think its cool to smoke,he'll come out of it,and the more you get on his back about it ,the more he will smoke.....
do not send him to boot camp or juvenile detention centers cause it cause more pain trust me i went threw it, i went to boot camp i just grew apart from my family. but anyways take screws and screw his windows shut and all the windows. don't let him talk to his friends. tell him to pick better ones or have none at all. tell him if you smell or find cigarettes on him he is staying home all day no phone or going any where! put your foot down show him who is boss! don't scream and fight cause its make him more rebel int and you more stress out. just make rules and put your foot down! you can do it show yourself you can or its going to get worse like fighting, drugs, drinking i have done all of this and i didn't stop till my mom put her foot down and showed me i was the kid and she was my mom and the boss! you can do it just tell your self that! just because a kid does wrong does not mean he should be ship off! i don't therapist work cause i have been threw that 2 but you can try it! or the nest time you see him smoking or with them make him eat the rest of the cigarette and i bet he would not like that! remember your a good mother.....good luck!
Buy him the lozenges and pray.
Some sort of Juvenile boot camp program.
vote for the democrats, they'll tax em so high he can't afford em
It might be hard to get him to stop they are sneaky I would make his time at home for his smaking unbearable. You pay to play. Take all of the stuff out of his room make him earn it back.
Haven't been in this situation... maybe take him to see a lung cancer patient in a hospital, contact a local quit smoking hotline to see what they suggest... put the fear into him by showing him the consequences of smoking. I'm sure someone who is sick from smoking would have no problem in chatting to him about whether or not he would like to end up like that. Smokers won't give up unless they want to...
my solution to the smoking aspect is to go out and buy him cartons of cigs and make him spend one day doing nothing but smoking one cig after another untill he is finaly sick of them. for the other stuff i have no idea but boot camp does sound like a good option though. good luck
I know what made me never want to smoke was seeing pics of black lungs and diff. kinds of cancers from smokeing. If you know anyone that as had or does have cancer form smokeing maybe see if they would have a talk with your son. Good Luck!
Maybe you should start smoking, too. You could be smoking buddies. Really get into it with pro-tobacco literature, posters, the works. Take the whole smoking is glamorous thing way overboard, chainsmoking in front of his friends, hacking all the time. Then take him to a cancer ward so you can hang out with some kickass old school smokers and see the cool stuff he'll get to do and that he's doomed you to.
