Is it possible as a Jehovah witness parent to teach your children to question everything?

except your religion? Is it possible as a Jehovah witness parent to teach your children to question everything?
Funny. I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was raised to ask questions. How could I have my beliefs, unless I knew them and had tested them??

As for testing ';everything';, I recommend being careful when testing such things as Gravity. Jumping off a bridge, just to see what will happen, can be dangerous. Is it possible as a Jehovah witness parent to teach your children to question everything?
No in fact I think its a bit of being a hypocrite to teach questioning everything but you can't question our religion! No offense but Jehovah witness are to stuffy for me and prefer Baptist churches! Maybe you should question your religion if your wanting to teach to question everything! I'm not saying not to be christian but to choose a different denomination! Personally I shut the door and run from the Jehovah witness people that come to our door. They always act like they are the only ones whom believe in God and act like they are without sin! No one is without sin! They don't go way when you tell them you already have a church! What don't they get? Are they retarded? Perhaps not! Baptist works for me! I'm shocked that since your Jehovah Witness that you even find it ok to be on yahoo! LOL
NO...how can they teach them to question everything when they are in fear of questioning anything themselves?!

I also have had many concerns about the mental health of JW children because they have only 2 choices in life....grow up to BE one of JWs like their parents OR...lose their family members and the only friends they know...by being shunned. This is why a child should NEVER be baptised as a JW....at least until they are FULLY grown and have had the chance to actually question the teachings of this group.
Yes it seems that JWs like most religions only believe in the scientific method and free inquiry up to the point of God/Bible/religion, and then suddenly there is a disconnect.

Suddenly things like evidence and logic and reason don't apply anymore. This is very convenient to the liars and miracle Wheat salesmen who invented the invisible angry super man theory, otherwise known as God.

We can't have religion of any kind if we are to apply the scientific method and or free inquiry accross the board, so as a person feels dissonance between what they see and hear and what they are taught in ';holy'; books, they have automatic responses that kick in and derail their line of questioning.

The idea of looking God right in the face and questioning him/her/it is just so sacreligious and blasphemous to most people they will never dare to ';let their minds go there'; as my JW mother put it.
No this is an impossibility for a Jehovahs Witness parent. They are expected to indoctrinate their children from birth onwards in the teachings of the WBTS. The children do not have a choice. As an 9 year old i once asked my dad during a watchtower family study ';What does circumcised mean?'; The whole study article had been about the circumcised and the uncircumcised and i hadn't a clue what it was all about. Us kids were just repeating lines from the paragraph as answers. Anyway, His reponse: ';Don't be stupid, you know what it means';. Well he is probably a very bad example of a JW parent but thats my experience of asking a simple question. I dare say many JW kids are terrified of displeasing Jehovah for fear of an imminent fiery death as i myself was as a child. This is what they are taught as fact. I wasn't even allowed to sit in any class that taught evolution at school, not really giving the kids a chance to form their own opinion are they. I could go on but it would take all night.
No. You can't raise a free thinker to blindly follow religion. You have to choose. Do you want your child to be independent and smart or a blind follower?

Following a religion does not make a person a blind follower. There are many smart people who have decided that %26lt;insert religion here%26gt; is the path that makes sense for them. There is nothing wrong with that as long as you come to that conclusion using an open mind.
My question is, why shouldn't you let your child question religion? If you're scared that your religion can't stand up to some questioning and inspection then maybe you're the one who should be wondering why it's your religion.
Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT to Question !

They are required to be one with the Watchtower !

Their Salvation depends upon it !

Jesus did not pay their Bill in full.

More is required of them.
