What should a parent look for to be worried about her toddler's language development?

What things should a parent look out for? When should she call the doctor about it?What should a parent look for to be worried about her toddler's language development?
I attached a link to a website that has all the general language milestones that a child should meet by certain ages. If you are ever concerned about your child, for any reason, do not hesitate to call their doctor. That's what you pay them for. :)What should a parent look for to be worried about her toddler's language development?
well i know everyone is going to tell u this but they all learn at there on speed. and will pick up words here and there. but not to worry until they get old say 3 years. and he still has problems and cant speak 3-4 word sentences then i would ask the doctor. but if you are unsure then next time you have a check up ask you Doctor about it and they can run test,,... but i wouldnt make a vist just for this....

good luck
We were recently asking this same question at the dr. At 12 months, they should have at least 2 - 3 words (usually mama, dada, bye, etc). At 18 months 10 -15 words. Between 18 - 24 months is when more words should really start coming around. Our son is 21 months and has recently just started spitting out tons of words. (Our first son had a vocabulary of 75 words by 18 months!) They are going to learn at their own pace, but there are some standards out there. Our first son is now almost 5 and has a bit of trouble making ';th'; sound, but that's it.

Also, consider this... does your child understand what you tell her? Can she follow simple directions? If so, her language is developing she just hasn't wanted or had the need to verbalize it to you. Continue to reward any improvement in verbalization from her.

The best thing for peace of mind is to just ask the doctor at her next appointment. Good luck!
You don't mention the age of the toddler but by the time a child is a few months old they can repeat sounds as they hear them.....like da da da, etc. So talk to the toddler a lot and look into his face and let him watch your mouth and tongue. You can also read, sing, etc.

If he is 'copy-catting' he is doing ok. After a year or so he should be able to say a few understandable words.

If you have any real concerns, mention them at your child's next regular check-up.
Our pediatrician has closely monitored his language at every visit and tells us what to expect and what to watch for and when/if to be concerned. I am surprised not all seem to do this.

I don't know how old your child is, but at my son's 18 mo appointment she expected him to have at minimum a dozen words and be able to point to and/or say a few body parts.
Depending on their age, keep an eye out for lisping that is when they use words using ';th';, also when there is no response and you find yourself talking louder than usual. Some children who are hard of hearing may tend to look at your mouth more often. Blinking when they speak or taking a while to get words out, stuttering comes in many forms.
Personally I think it all depends on the child and their environment. A lot of children I know who are not around other kids their age tend not to talk as much because mommy and daddy understand their every sound. Also I remember my son didn't really start talking clearly enough for other people than my husband and I to understand him until he was about 2 and a half. Even know at 3 and a half it can be hard to know what he is saying. But if you are concerned I would talk to your local doc or if he/she is in day care speak to their provider and she what they think of his or her speach.
If your child isn't really talking by the age of 2 get help. The sooner you get help for your toddler the easier it will be to treat any possible problem.

My son who is 28 months has speech issues and is seeing a speach patholighis now but things I noticed and was told to look out for was poor eye contact, not being able to put 2 words together limited vocabulary.

I hope this helps and if your toddler does need speech therapy I can say from experience it has helped my son hugely.

Can a school attorney attend an IEP meeting w/out parent notification prior to the meeting?

Can anyone cite the IDEA federal law that would allow the school to have attorney representation without prior notice to the parents or their advocate? We're dealing with a messy situation and our attorney just represented the last school the parents tried to sue.

Thank you in advance for your answers! Can a school attorney attend an IEP meeting w/out parent notification prior to the meeting?
Not sure about that one...but if I were to guess, I would say yes they can. B/c the parents/student have the right to have an advocate or attorney present at ANY IEP without prior notification about advocate or attorney being present.

You should have received a IEP handbook that probably has this information.

I bet IDEA has a website too.Can a school attorney attend an IEP meeting w/out parent notification prior to the meeting?
You have the option to stay at a meeting, or refuse to participate in a meeting, should you walk into the room and find the district has brought their counsel without giving you the opportunity to bring your own attorney. You can reschedule the meeting or ask the district counsel to excuse themselves. Call your department of education in the state you live in, and ask for the regulation number that addresses this issue.

How does a parent address masturbation issues with a 15-year old daughter?

I was recently in my daughter's room picking up laundry from the bed when I discovered a ';toy'; hidden within the sheets in her unmade bed. My first reaction was embarassment and shame. I was born in a different country and some would say my views on sex are a bit old-fashioned. I personally never had a need for one of these toys but I am aghast that my teenage daughter would even think to have one of these items. I asked her about it and if she's engaged in sexual activity and she said no. She received it as a gag gift from an older female classmate. What am I supposed to make of this? Am I supposed to get upset with her or discipline her for something that some would call normal teenage behavior? I'm afraid that her using something like this may encourage her to have sex. She is a wonderful girl, but in so many ways she is so naive and has that rebellious/superior teeange mentality. We don't get along and I don't know what I'm supposed to say to her or how.How does a parent address masturbation issues with a 15-year old daughter?
Since society doesn't usually openly discuss masterbation, especially among females, she was probably embarressed to admit she was experimenting. This is normal and she shouldn't be punished or disciplined for it. In fact, girls who are made to feel ashamed about their bodies and feeling may have sexual dysfunction later.

If you don't really get along, she probably won't admit if she's had sex or is thinking about it. But masterbation does not necessarily mean she is more likely to engage in sexual activity with a partner.

The key to protecting your daughter is for her to feel comfortable coming to you with questions. Work on your relationship to improve communication. Of course, don't give-up your values/morals, but try to set aside your own ';old-fashioned'; views on sex, so she knows she can talk to you without judgment. Rather than ask her questions like ';have you done this or that'; (feels like an interrogation), tell her that you love her and want to protect her from being hurt by sexual activity at too young an age. Be open and honest and try not to judge her, but help her get through these tough years.

Good luck! How does a parent address masturbation issues with a 15-year old daughter?
You're welcome. Our relationship wasn't perfect in my teens - we squabbled like most mother-daughters. But I really think I have my mom to thank for this answer.

Let her be. It is normal. This is a way for her to experiment with herself. Her engaging in the behaviour may prevent her from engaging in any other sexual behaviours. I wouldn't suggest punishing her or disciplining her.
Masturbation is natural. My mother caught me masturbating at her age... she made a HUGE deal of it. I can tell you from experience that if you make a big deal out of it, it could make her ashamed of her sexuality for the long haul. I'm 30 now... and I still have problems from my mom making such a big thing about it.

With three girls of my own now, I will likely turn the other cheek if/when I catch my girls.
If you throw the toy away and make a big deal about it with the other girl's parents, you are going to send the message that masturbation and sex are bad. That is not a message you should give to your daughter. You should talk to her about the risks of sex and available protection, but having a sex toy doesn't mean she is having sex. In fact, it probably means she isn't and is using the toy for satisfaction. Even infants touch themselves to feel good. There isn't anything bad or dirty about it and exploring herself now will make sex more enjoyable when she grows older. Don't make a big deal about this toy.
The toy doesn't necessarily mean she is having sex. If anything, it might make her feel that she doesn't need to have sex yet because she can get the satisfaction on her own. I'd let it go if I were you.
Let her enjoy this toy. By using it it keep herself satisfied she will not be as horny for the boys. Don't worry about it.She will learn to use her fingers to reach orgasm also.
Shes exploring! all girls are gonna do that. i dont think you should talk to her about it, but since u already have, just drop the subject. its probably really embarrising for her, and its a unneeded convo. there is nothing wrong with what she's doing. sorry if i sound mean i dont mean to at all.
Okay. I know this is probably an uncomfortable subject for you. So far, you're doing good coming here instead of automatically getting on the defensive with her. If you think you can, talk more with your daughter about it. While she *is* young, it is not abnormal for her to have sexual desires and want to do something about them. It's better that she is taking care of this herself instead of having a sexual relationship at such a young age. So it's really not a bad thing for her to have/use this ';toy,'; it could even make her put off sex longer than she would have without it. She doesn't have to have a boy to release these desires with. Just try and make sure she is cleaning and caring for the toy properly with soap and water and drying it afterwards. Not cleaning it can lead to infection because bacteria can grow on it. If it's easier for you than talking to her face to face, write it out. That way you can get everything down in a clear concise manner and she can take her time reading it. Encourage her to find someone she is comfortable with to talk to about general woman's health and how to take good care of her body. Maybe it won't be you, but at least she will have someone.
Don't even bring it up. That's her privacy and she has a right to it, especially at 15. You can have a regular discussion about sex (ie does she have the right information and ready to make such decisions) but what she is doing in private, with her own body that is causing no harm you have no right bringing up. If you are uncomfortable then maybe it's time to stop ';cleaning up'; her room (when i was a teenager the only time my mother cleaned up my room was to snoop) and let her do it herself. If you are worried that she won't have clean clothes to wear then it would be a great lesson in personal responsibilty and growing up.
I think Beni really hit the nail on the head with this one...
i don't think she is using it, she is prob too scared to if she hasn't had sex, i do think she is telling the truth, keep hold of it, if she wants to be curios then let her do it on her own, you don't really need a pep talk about masturbation, maybe buy her a book and let her read it, jusat warn her about sex, keep open with her and when she hits 17 buy her condoms and say if she needs any t ask you, then you will know she is doing it safelty
First ask her if she knows what the ';toy'; is really used for. Assume she is telling the truth but just in case explain to her that masterbation isnt a bad thing as long as it is done occasionally in private. But she should not have toys as such a young girl. She should wait until she is 18 to buy them if she wants them. Take the toy and THROW IT OUT. Tell her you want the NAME of the older girl and I would call that girls parents and tell them exaxtly what the girl gave your daughter.

What is the best way to concieve as a single parent.?

Has anyone out there decided to be a single parent by choice? What is the best method, artificial insamination? Would like to hear from successful experiences where woman have been able to afford to stay home with their child and afford to bring up their child with basica needs and some luxuries. What about moral issues? What is the best way to concieve as a single parent.?
Everyone has different opinions and they're entitled to them... It seems though that most of the answers given were based upon their own feelings rather than the actual question asked.

If you are emotionally %26amp; financially stable enough to handle the responsibilities of being a full time single mom then I applaud you! Please just make sure that you are wanting to have this child for all of the right reasons.

There are so many IVF clinics across the country if you are looking for artificial insemination. The only other way would be to have a willing sperm donor though that can get sticky in so many ways.

I would contact an IVF clinic to discuss your options with a certified physician who will do thorough analysis of your entire situation. It'll be a little more invasive with the mental aspect in the beginning but that is only to ensure that this child that you will conceive is in the best possible familial situation (Single Parents can be the that too).

I wish you the best of luck :)What is the best way to concieve as a single parent.?
Think long and hard before you make this decision. I am a single parent, not but chose, but it still isn't any easier. How do you expect to be a stay at home mom, where will you income come from, can you afford the child's basic needs by yourself? Do you have any reliable friends or family members willing to help you out? And who will be able to provide a father figure for you child? Think about all of this, because a child get thier first impressions of what and man and a women are from thier parents, do you want your daughter going out sleeping with various men trying to compensate for the lack of a father figure or your son joining a gang to feel like a man? Think about all of this before you bring a child into your life, because when they get here, it's no longer about what you want.
talk to your dr. and do what you feel is right.
I believe a child needs a mother and a father figure to grow up normally. In my view, this is the way mother nature intended it to be.
sorry , dont know but you can always ask your doctor where you can go to get artificial insamination. and i dont know any single parent that is able to stay home unless they live with their parents.
well i have friends that are single parents and its not easy if they didnt have good parents they wouldnt have made it as far as they did, it very hard they case was dead beat dads. i am not say it cant be done but it very hard from what i have seen.the work all the time buy the time they pay baby sitter and bills pay gone. one my friends is lucky her mom dosen work so she has a free baby sitter. my other one dish out about $95 a week in child care. both of them have resived child support in years. my friends lil boy is now 7 and has started asked qustion about his dad.... well she took him to were he worked wait for him to get off and told him this is your dad. well did go so well but least he knows how sorry his father is now.kids are very costly and i think it takes to incomes if you dont want to work all the time and not see your kid. i ve been lucky i been a stay at home mom hubby has a great job. she dont have the finist of things but she has ever thing she needs and some so i think she fine. me and hubby were together 2 years before we had our first. and 5 now we have our sound on the way. you have to be ready and the preson you are with has to be. .
that is oxymoronic. you are an idiot. children require a male and female parental figure.

Why would a parent allow their child to smoke weed?

My best friend recently told his mom that he smokes weed and she is perfectly OK with it. He is in college, has a job, and doing well, but he smokes weed excessively now and I feel he in on the verge of going down hill and I'm the only one that cares. What can I do, and what allows his mom to allow him to do this? Why would a parent allow their child to smoke weed?
I read this magazine that this mom allowed her teenage daughter to smoke, she bought condoms for her, and allowed her to drink. Apparently her perception was that if she didn't expose her daughter to those things, her daughter would secretly do those things herself behind her back. The mom didn't want that and wanted to keep her trust with her daughter so she allowed her daughter and encouraged her to do those things.

Maybe your best friend's mom was happy that he told the truth to her and didn't lie about it?Why would a parent allow their child to smoke weed?
His mom respects him as an adult and she would rather know that he smokes then him go behind her back and kids are smoking weed now a days and if he is smoking a lot to the point where he could get caught then you should tell his mother and then confront him with it

if u cant get him to stop then try to get him to cut down on it.

hang out with him from time to time i.e. take him out to a club or something.
As long as he is doing well in life, why would you be concerned? My mother knows that I smoke weed, but she is cool with it because I can still maintain a 3.72 at a good college. If he smoke excessively I might suggest that he cuts down for the sake of his health however, there doesn't really seem to be a problem here.
She probably did it herself as a young person. If she denies her kid using it, she'd be a hypocrite. I would like to know the reason a woman who tells others that she is intelligent, would allow herself to get pregnant and have a kid in the first place! She deserves whatever she gets.
Would u be getting all upset if your friends mom was drinking instead of smoking. Maybe his mom sees them as the same.
Maybe his mom did and suffered no ill effects that she can tell.

My ex has served me with a petition to modify parent child relationship?

My ex has served me with a petition of modify parent child relationship. I need to answer this very soon. I mainly agree with it due to the fact that my daughter is going to be living with him this year. There are some parts I disagree with and I just don't want to default and would like to answer with minor changes. Is there a sample answer form somewhere? I live in Texas by the way.My ex has served me with a petition to modify parent child relationship?
Call an attorney, anything u do will be law till a judge changes it back. So make sure u r ok with everything before u do anything!!!!!!My ex has served me with a petition to modify parent child relationship?
You will have to file a motion to contest the modification. Go to the court clerk to find out how to do this.

The Modification Process

The process to modify a current court order affecting custody, visitation or support begins with a petition to the court asking for the modification. You will probably need the assistance of a lawyer to file a proper petition because there are several things that must be in the petition and you will need to make sure that the petition is properly served on the other party. Once the petition is filed and served, the court can enter temporary orders if properly requested. If the modification is agreed to by the other party, the process can be completed relatively quick. If the other party wants to contest the modification then the court will have to schedule the case for trial.

Grounds to Modify the Custody/Visitation Order

Any person who is affected by the order can ask the court to modify or enforce the order. Before the court can grant a modification, it must find:

1. that the modification is in the best interest of the child;

2. that the circumstances of the child, a conservator or a party affected by the order have

materially and substantially changed since the order was signed by the court.

3. that a child over 12 years of age has filed with the court a written preference for a different primary managing conservator.

4. that the primary managing conservator has voluntarily given up care and possession of the child to another person for at least 6 months.

If the change is requested within 12 months of the original order, you must also show one of the following:

1. The child鈥檚 present environment may endanger the child鈥檚 physical health or significantly impair the child鈥檚 emotional development;

2. The person entitled to establish the child鈥檚 primary residence is consenting to or bringing the motion for the best interest of the child;

3. The person entitled to establish the child鈥檚 primary residence has voluntarily given care and possession to another person for at least 6 months and a change would be in the child鈥檚 best interest.

  • Why dont they call a child tri racial if one parent is one race and the other is biracial?

Well, Im half black and Puerto Rican, Then my boyfriend is White. Im look at it this way, Bi means two and tri means three. So why don't call a child bi racial if one parent is one race and the other is bi racial. Why dont they call a child tri racial if one parent is one race and the other is biracial?
I think your child would be considered ';multi-racial'; I haven't filled any forms out lately, but I think there was a ';multi racial'; choice when I did the application for my son's birth certificate. But, I was on so many drugs because I had such a bad tear during delivery that I could be mistaken! LoLWhy dont they call a child tri racial if one parent is one race and the other is biracial?
This is for Dawn G. Native American? That term does NOT include all indigenous people in America. I hate the term indigenous. Who uses the term new world besides historians? I'm Native American, black, and white. Saying Multiracial is okay, but it sounds too much like political correctness.

Puerto Rican isn't a race, it is a person from Puerto Rico.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to use Native American, which includes all indigenous peoples of the New World.

And personally I think we should ALL answer with ';Human'; when asked of race. Race is not the same thing an ethnicity.
I don't understand why they have to keep records of ethnic origin. If your baby is born in America then your baby should be considered American and that's it. I am oppossed to using African-American, Biracial or any of that. But then again I'm a hardcore nationalist.
Well, many of the times people just refer to the percentage of the ethnicity in a person. For example, Sarah Palin's husband is 1/8 or something like that Inuit i believe. My mother is Trinidadian, my father Nigerian, my husband Egyptian so what in the world should i consider my son??? LOOOL
Well people are so many things - it would be bi-racial, tri-racial, quad-racial, quint-racial, sept-racial. Etc. Why keep counting, it could never stop!! I am Mexican, Caucasion, and Asian. I would not like to be called tri-racial. Multi-racial is the best way to put it.
I think biracial is becoming a term of the past and people are moving in the direction of multicultural or multiracial. I tell by quad-racial child she is multicultural.
They refer to that as multi-racial.
mixed race or multi racial would be correct
I think I will start saying that now...Thanks

  • Does a single parent who only worked about one month in 2009 still get a tax refund in 2010?

Yes, you'll get something. You probably qualify for some amount of the Earned Income Credit. Not much, but still. Also, if you paid anything in, you'll get it all back, considering you have a child.Does a single parent who only worked about one month in 2009 still get a tax refund in 2010?
YOu can file regardless of how much you made. However, if you are a single parent, you may be eligible for Earned INcome Credit and other credits if you qualify. Filing is for the purpose of a refund basically. Yet we all have taxes withheld from our pay by filling out a W-4, which is turned in to the IRS. This is how they keep up with dead-beat parents who wish to skip out on paying their support. So if you do not have a tax liability then any credits will be added onto your return and possibly allow for you to get a refund even though your income was low. No you do not count child support as income, nor does the parent who pays it count it. Alimony is a different matter. Nor does welfare payments count as income.

For example, in 2008, if you earned $2,000 but less than $2,025 and you are filing head of household(meaning you have a dependent(s), then your tax on that $2,000 would be $201. This would be the amount that is withheld from your check during that month. If you did not pay in that much for whatever reason, you would owe the IRS unless you have credits like the ones I mentioned previously.

I hope this helps.Does a single parent who only worked about one month in 2009 still get a tax refund in 2010?
Most likely. You'll receive a refund of the income taxes that were withheld unless this was a VERY high paying job. You'll also most likely be eligible to claim the EIC and possibly the Additional Child Tax Credit if you earned enough in that month.
If you had more taxes withheld from your pay by your employer than you actually owe, then yes, you'll get the extra withholding back from the IRS in the form of a refund.
if you had earned income, you should be entitled to earned income credit and child care credits.
Depending on how much they made in that month, they very possibly would, but unless they were highly paid it would be a lot less than if they worked all year.

How can a parent NOT KNOW if their twins are identical or fraternal?

Cant they tell during the ultrasound or at the birth?how can some possibly not know?I know someone who has twins and they have to be dna tested to tell if their identical or not,Ive seen it before on tv too,I dont understand? How can a parent NOT KNOW if their twins are identical or fraternal?
Even after they are born, it is sometimes difficult to know whether twins are identical or fraternal. It can be easier if they:

    -share one placenta (identical)

    -are different sexes (fraternal)

    -have different blood types (fraternal)

It is harder to know if they are the same sex, have the same blood type, or if there are two placentas, since they could then be either fraternal or identical twins.

Don't be fooled by a fused placenta (fraternal twins), which can look like it is just one placenta, or if the twins don't look alike. Sometimes, factors during the pregnancy, especially twin to twin transfusion syndrome, can lead to identical twins that have very different birth weights and are mistakenly thought to be fraternal. And sometimes, fraternal twins can look enough alike to be confused with identical twins. How can a parent NOT KNOW if their twins are identical or fraternal?
It should show up on a scan,or you'd think it would.identical twins share the same placenta, fraternal twins have seperate placentas.there's a condition called twin to twin transfusion, this only occurs in identical (extremely rare though).they would check for this on a scan.

Once the babies are born though, its pretty easy, especially if there's one of each!I don't know why this person is having the babies dna tested, its fairly obvious if they're identical or not.

Identical twins are always the same sex, fraternal can come in the same or opposite sex.

    Weird,never heard of that before!
    LOL

    Not all the time!

I have 10 month old twin daughters. They were in separate sacs with their own placentas. When I gave birth to them, both the placentas fused together, making one.

Me %26amp; my partner could never be able to tell the difference between them, and they still get confused for identical twins.

I've also read somewhere that some people believe that the reason fraternal twins who look identical, are the result of the egg splitting FIRST, then are fertilised by 2 separate sperm.

I do not know if this is true though!

Also, a friend of mine had twin girls, who were in the same sac, but couldn't be more opposite from eachother. One has blonde hair (looks like her father) And the other has dark hair and looks exactly like her mother. You would never even believe they were twins, let alone identical twins!

Even though I still refer to my twin girls as fraternal, they look so alike, I really question myself sometimes.

Me %26amp; partner are thinking of taking the test to see if they are or not.

I used to think like you, until I actually had my own set of twins.

I now understand why some parents don't know if their twins are identical of not.

    It can be very confusing!

    ;-)
I am an identical twin (32 years old). We had always been told we were fraternal because we were in two separate sacs (ultrasounds weren't done much back then, so info came from our actual birth). But just three years ago, we started reading on the internet about it because we have always looked so much alike that no one believed we were not identical. It seems that even with two sacs or two placentas, it is possible that the twins can be identical...it all depends on when the egg splits. We had a dna test done at the age of 29 and found we were identical.
A parent will not now if there twins are Fraternal or Identical till they are born or if they ask at the ultrasound. Fraternal Twins (non identical of same sex or boy and girl, 2 eggs are fertilized) run in the family, the gene is passed down through the women of the family, men do not carry the gene, so if ur father is an identical or fraternal twin it makes no difference, because he cant have the gene. Identical twins are basically a mystery?? no one really nows why?? (they are always the same sex), they share the same egg Fraternal twins can have different eye colours, hair colour, blood type as they are both different. Identical twins, will share the same eye colour, hair colour and blood group. When at a scan the doctor or nurse will be able to c if there is one sac being used or 2.... I think u can just ask??

    Hope this helps
My two over there %26lt;%26lt;%26lt; are of course fraternal twins and both had there own sac, identical twins share the same sac i was told at my first scan it was twins and they were fraternal and identical twins are just that they are identical and tend to be the same sex either two boys or two girls, and a note who said fraternal twins have different blood types is wrong both my twins have the same blood group as me
Normally its very simple to tell if they are identical or not, identical will share a sac and fraternal will not. after ready many things about twins now I'm expecting them, if the egg splits late 2 sacs can be made, meaning the twins are identical but have separate sacs. So its possible it can happen!
Fraternal twins can look identical. If they look exactly the same, it would be very easy to think they are identical even if they aren't.
Their doctor may not have told the parents whether they were identical or fraternal, and after they are born they could look alot alike but still not be identical or the other way around
some identical twins have their own sac and some even their own placenta. it all depends on when the egg split.
Yes I believe that identical twins share a 'sac' in the womb where as non-identical dont,. I may be wrong but Im pretty sure of it
    A scan WILL show.

How if our parent didn't agree with our dream? Should we let our dream go away?

I want to be a teacher in Borneo hinterland or a social worker for nature, children, or for the poor. But all of it doesn't make a lot of money, even a prestige. Should I let my dream go away?? If not, how can I reach it without make my family disappointed? How if our parent didn't agree with our dream? Should we let our dream go away?
The money isn't as important as your happiness and satisfaction in your career. Talk to your counselor to see what classes you should take and resourses you can use to do this. Your parents may be disappointed at first, but your parents will overcome that when they see your happiness and success. How if our parent didn't agree with our dream? Should we let our dream go away?
You shouldn't say goodbye to your dream but you would also have to find a way that your parents would be glad. Every parent is concerned with his or her child especially when it concerns your future or path in life. How about this if you are concerned with money, then why don't you open up a business or join a company and become an active member of their social projects or propose them yourself. In this way, you can be of help to other people, make your parents proud and happy with your work and be satisfied with yourself
Just tell you parent it's your dream and you want to do it. No, do not let your dreams go. Ask you parent if they want you to fail doing something else that you do not want to do. Maybe later on your parents will see the good your doing and won't be disappointed in you any more. Follow your dreams that's what is going to make you happy.
When i was younger I wanted to be a dog trainer. My parents told me it was stupid and that I would make no money in it. Maybe its not high expectations for me to be a dog trainer but I joined the military instead. While in the military I started a small business to become a dog trainer. I have trained assistance dogs and helped the shelter home many previously unfit for adoption dogs. My buisiness shot off and I became super popular helping people with severe problem dogs. I have relocated and I still get emails from others asking for my help. I say do what you feel you want to do in your heart. It may not be easy or pay well, but some people are cut out to do certain jobs. They are suited for that line of work. I am happy training dogs. I am currently going to school to be a nurse, but will alway train dogs. I love it. You may also consider a job that pays better but has the same educational background. You could always work in that area part-time like I do in mine. I do not know if this helps you, but maybe explaining my story will help you make your choices.
You have to remember that this is your life. A good life does not mean having a job that brings in a ton of money. A good life is defined by what makes you happy, not everyone else. If you truly want to do any of those things and that's what will make you happy, then you should go for it. Eventually your family will come to terms with the fact that you chose your own path.
No way don't let your parents interfere with your dreams they are your dreams not your parents and stand up and believe in your dream and just tell your parents that you want to be what you want to be. It's your life

its ur life do what u feel is ur purpose here on this beautiful earth, sounds like u have good goal of helping others i would be proud of that
It's YOUR life, not our family's.

How do you parent a really bad kid?

How does one parent a kid who is bad?

She's 12 and she always gives problems. More problems than other kids. It's not the problems that's bad. It's mostly the lying. She lies even when she is caught red handed. How do you parent a really bad kid?
Kids lie because they are afraid of getting into trouble, disappointing their parent figure, and because they are embarrassed; aside from just concealing the truth.

Sounds to me like your punishments are too severe and she's afraid but you might want to have her evaluated to see if there's a pathological issue. How do you parent a really bad kid?
All kids lie. You might want to consider the fact that your child is going through some hormonal changes right now. My oldest daughter was extremely hard to handle between the ages of 11 and 14. It mellowed out a lot after she got her period.

The best thing you can do is to have patience while enforcing your rules and handing out the proper punishment when the rules are broken. Especially when it comes to lying. Kids push the boundaries to see how far they can get. But remember to be understanding and caring as well. Try to keep the lines of communication open.
Blatant, bold-faced lies are the worst type. This girl needs an attitude adjustment. It seems that she does fear your punishments enough. Have you tried spanking her? Dishonesty, in any form, should not be condoned. A person's reputation and integrity come right after one's health when ranking one's most valued possessions. She needs to learn that if she lies, cheats, or steals, she will be dealt with very harshly.
Get the belt out. When they know the belt is coming, they shape up. It's an attention getter.
consistent parenting, discipline, nurturing and love. If what you are doing is not working then change yourself.
I agree with Jeff, a spanking may well help. Best done on bared buttocks with hand over lap or knee

Is it more common to go alone or with a parent when taking a tour of a college campus?

I'm a junior and am going to be touring some colleges over spring break. It'll be a student leading the tour. Do parents usually accompany the prospective student on the tour?Is it more common to go alone or with a parent when taking a tour of a college campus?
Parents often go along and they usually ask the more important questions that students forget about. I'd recommend that you also branch out and look around without the group though- there's a totally different feel to campus when your not with the tour.Is it more common to go alone or with a parent when taking a tour of a college campus?
    Parents usually acompany the kids. And its the parents asking stupidass questions as well. When I went on college tours, I was quiet and me and my dad stayed in the back laughing at stupid questions parents were asking such as ';what does the school do to ensure my child will eat a nutritious meal every day'; and ';what is the curfew for saturday nights';
Yes, most colleges we visited there were always parents accompanying the student.. It is a big decision and its nice to have parents along or friends.. You might be more confident asking questions, etc. Its suppose to be pleasurable and you dont want to walk around all day by yourself and then probably eat by yourself. Its not just a student thing so its not like all the students are alone....
Yes, (at least in my experience) parents usually accompany students on college campus tours, unless there's a separate parent info session that they attend while you're touring.
My parents didn't go with me, but I know alot of people brought their parents with them.

It's a good idea to have your parents there, not really for YOU, they probably want to see for themselves and make a decision on whether if they think you'll be a good student there or party all the time there!

As a parent are you completely against your teenage son or daughter drinking?

i know for sure that you are. but like casual drinking at home or at a trusted friends house knowing they are safe are you still against it?As a parent are you completely against your teenage son or daughter drinking?
My family is Italian, It's a different culture and set of beliefs. Although we all live in Canada now, it doesn't change anything.

Bottom line is, any teen will and is going to sneak behind your back to do a little drinking or something else you may not entirely approve of. Instead of sweating over that, why not worry about instilling good values and qualities into your kids to know they will always make the right decision even in the not-so-right situations. I would never drink and drive and I don't drink in excess to the point where I lose judgment or black out.

I still had to wait my turn, I'm sixteen now, and when we have big family get togethers, everyone has a glass of red wine, except the younger kids, but I for one enjoy wine altogether and am completely interested in the process of making it as well. Not to mention it enhances the flavor of food. After dinner we will all gather around and chat, then singing will start to break out, the usual Italian family stuff. And after that all the adults will indulge and have a few drinks, the younger group of us, usually 15-18 will enjoy a couple drinks, and it's just a fun night all together. But that being said, coming from a european heritage, We all know our limits, we all know not to drink until it becomes dangerous and nobody ever drinks and drives as we always make sure there are a couple desginated drivers at the get together to get everyone home safely.

Alcohal isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as it is consumed in safe amounts. As I said, red wine has many benefits as well. People always assume because we are teenagers that we are all irresponsible and will go get ourselves killed, but the truth is, it's really up to the parents and how they raised their kids that decides whether they are going to make the right or wrong decisions.

Back in Italy, there really isn't a legal drinking age in a lot of places, well there is, but it's young and isn't utilized too often.

If my Grandpa was still alive and you were to ask him how to cure your infants tooth ache, he would hand you a shot of whiskey. Not that that's technically right, but it's funny nonetheless! My Grandpa was quite the character.. as are many Italians. As a parent are you completely against your teenage son or daughter drinking?
I am not against it, teenage drinking is a reality today; and while there should be consequences, I want my children to feel like they can call me for help if they need to. I'd much rather they were not sneaking around and driving drunk. Parents who think their child wont drink at all are completely oblivious. They really don't understand the reality of high school.

I see two options, lock your kids in the house and let them have no fun, or know what they are doing and do your best to keep them safe. The real issue in my opinion is what to do if you know your kid is at house where the parents don't allow drinking. You can't lie to those parents.
Growing up I was always allowed to try a sip of my moms wine at dinner. I don't like wine, but I did like some of the fruity drinks that would be available at Christmas. I would always have a bit and that was it. It's perfectly legal because my mom was there and it wasn't much (the law states a certain level, but it results from a couple of sips). I am 19 and have never had more than a glass of alcohol and I've always had it while in the company of my mom (except once when my sister offered me a sip of her drink). I like some drinks but I'm not a big fan overall.

I plan on doing the same with my kids. I will never, by any means, let them drink more than a glass and absolutely never get drunk. I know parents who do that and it's pathetic. But trying it won't hurt them. I'd rather them be open with me rather than sneaking swigs behind my back.
No, I am not totally against it, my parents let me drink from the age of 12! This was too young, but, in the same token, now I drink once every few months, (when I am not pregnant)

I am aware my children are going to try it regardless of what I say, so I would rather let them have a drink with their meal, or on special occasions when I am there. I would not let them do this though until they have finished school!
Yes always against teenage drinking. First of all it is illegal and second of all I don't want my teenage son doing things like that because alcohol can cause so many problems in anyones life let alone a teenager. Alcohol is addictive and makes people do crazy things for example crashing a car and doing other stupid things that teenagers do not need to be a part of.
Well, I am not a parent, but my mom would not let me no matter what. She doesn't want me to drink at 21.

Well also my dad had some drinking problems (he is okay now), it is why they are not together any more

    And my step dad told me the rules, also, ';there will be NO drinking';
Well teens in the uk can drink and buy alcohol at the age of 18.. I don't see the problem with it really... if kids are kept under supervision to ensure they don't get too out of it or do anything silly then whats the problem?

I'd rather have them doing it under my roof than somewhere they can get up to all sorts... it's a proven fact in places like italy where 12 yr olds have alcohol regurally with meals and things there is less temptation to sneak around and abuse alcohol.. there is little or no binge drinking culture there
I am not a parent I am 23 and my parent would let us taste beer at the house if we were curious. I think that it helped to take away the sneaking around factor.

As long as its your kid and they are on your property it's legal for them to drink.
I think that at a responsible parent can properly teach a teenager to drink. By letting them experiment at home, they will learn the consequences early, and most likely be more responsible with alcohol in the future.
Yes, i'm against it because they are under age. With good supervision and good values instilled, there should be no problem with them drinking behind your back.
yes.......are we gonna let them smoke crack cos they're 'under our supervision' also?

What's safe about drinking?? Are people only able to have fun when they're drunk, is that how we're raising our children??
Yes I am, drinking is not for teenagers. Though if they must drink I prefer them doing it at our house rather than somewhere else.
    Yes utterly and completely.
i think that it is okay for them to drink a little whine or beer under supervision, only under supervision.
Yes, no ifs, ands or buts
some guy on the bus i take in the morning was talking about this too, you arent that guy are you?
My husband and I have wine with dinner a few times a week. If my kids want some, I wouldn't care.
my kid can get twistedd for all i care

What is the worst thing you did as a parent?

What do you think should happen to the parents who falsely reported that balloon boy was missing?

I read an article where parents admitted to some horrible things. Leaving kids in cars, with irresponsible kids, with people they barely know, etc. What is the worst thing you did as a parent?
The worst thing I did was to accidentally lock my son, who was an infant into the car. I had to flag down security at the mall. Luckily it was a cool day as I live in the South. Now, I make sure my keys are always in my pocket. *knock on wood*

I think they should have criminal charges pressed against them for making such a false claim. That call to 911 was a waist of time and took away from a real emergency. What is the worst thing you did as a parent?
The worst thing I could do as a parent was put my son's dad on the birth certificate, it is a pain in the butt for insurance reasons, child support, etc, and it will be a pain for my son as well. This guy never asks for my son, doesn't know his birthdate, has only seen him twice in 20 months and doesn't pay child support or care for him.

I haven't done anything else, his dad even told me once I overprotect him because I won't let our son go with him. Well, he is the kind of guy that if he wants to go to a party or somewhere, he will leave his son with the first one who takes him. I know this because he used to leave his first son with people he said he knew, but was lying so he could hang out. He is back with his first son's mom, had a little girl and they just leave those kids anywhere, with whomever to go partying.

It's crazy and SAD how these people don't care about their kids.
I don't think the parents should be dealt all the blame. Keep in mind, the police department supposedly searched their home for the child. They should have done better. If the police department had done their jobs properly, they would have saved man hours, tax dollars, and headaches for everyone else. It definitely seemed to me to be a scam for 15 minutes of fame. TLC loves that kind of crap, so they probably WILL get their own show soon. I guess they should be punished just like anyone else would be for filing a false police report.
I bought these real nice plums, and I told my kids if you want some eat them in the house because I didn't want to give the plums to all the neighbors kids I looked out the door and all the kids were eating these plums. I called my kids in the house and started yelling at them. Then I found out my neighbor gave all the kids plums. What a jerk I am

I don't know what they sould do to them I was fooled I thought the kid was in there and when they didn't find him I thought he fell out. Bad thing to do real bad
    A lot of jail time.

They did all those things and they took up a lot of emergency personal that could of responded to real emergency. They will be looking at a lot of charges.Including a false story.
I yelled at him. Like, hardcore yelled at him. He just stared at me with his big teary eyes so huge, and I felt so bad.

It wasn't even his fault, any of it.

    Bad, mommy, bad!
I'd like to see ballon boys mom in beat up in county jail

    not over the balloon inncident

just because shes a nasty personality
My three year old felt left out one night when we my wife and I were doing shots while playing cards. So we let him do ';shots'; of water, figuring at three he had no idea what we were drinking lol.
The worst thing I did was to forget one day to tell him, ';I love you';. Won't happen again.

As a parent, what types of gifts would you like your 1yr old to receive?

Our neighbor's son is turning one and I'd like to get him something that his parents will be happy about; they are financially well-off so I know he doesn't NEED anything. I have brothers 17 years younger than me so I know that noisy toys are generally not appreciated. I'm also pretty sure he's going to get 900 new outfits to add to his collection. As a parent, what sort of gift would you be happy to receive? Something educational? Fun? Practical? Sentimental? Specific ideas are definitely welcome. As a parent, what types of gifts would you like your 1yr old to receive?
I would say a savings bond is always a good gift - even if you are financially well off . . . it is thoughtful and will come in handy later.

Otherwise, go the sentimental route . . . we received a photo box with our twins names and date of birth on it . . . it was wonderful as we were able to put all of their pictures in it and have something nice on the table at the same time.

    Here is a link:

http://www.thingsremembered.com/webapp/w鈥?/a>As a parent, what types of gifts would you like your 1yr old to receive?
Books are wonderful gifts, even if the books are meant for older children. Little kids like being read to even if they don't understand everything that you read.

Building blocks or other toys made of wood are a great present, too, and a nice change from the mountains of plastic stuff that parents get drowned in. Also, there's something wonderfully sentimental about a well made wooden toy that can last to be handed down to the baby's babies.
Gift Card, Gift Card, Gift Card! Lol But if you can't afford much i would have loved to received bath toys. If not bath toys, clothes, or a gift card than a movie if they allow their child to watch tv. My son loves watching Noggin so an educational movie would be the best option. It's ashamed that our cable network will be cutting that channel from the package and a few others tonight }:(
Hi well i was going to say something educational but sentimental would be nice and also how about a Book something suitable for his age, because this mum and dad will enjoy reading it to him and a child can never have to many books.
Do you have any attraction parks in your area that would be suitable for toddlers? Or a zoo? Why not get a gift certificate or tickets to something like that.
Get the kid some educational toys

Do take these money saving children coupons with you that are offered for free by this website when going for shopping for the kid

    http://www.clickmycoupon.com/
something like building blocks are great you can never have too many they help baby learn and there quite.
A wagon or the ';Little People'; toys are good for a one-year-old.

What do you think of people who park in parent and child places at supermarkets when they don't have any kids?

Should the supermarket have clamping security and fines?

This money could be sent to a worthy cause.

Can these type of people not bear being told what to do?What do you think of people who park in parent and child places at supermarkets when they don't have any kids?
    Hey Funk

Unfortunately, i think many of these people are a representation of today's society in that they are unable to think beyond themselves, and they have absolutely no respect for a) rules, and b) others it would not be out of order to clamp their vehicles, and unless they have a very good reason, make them pay through their nostrils.

Finally, i think these are exactly the type of people who start whinging when they are caused minor inconvenience, and make the most noise in doing so, and they are probably never in the wrong either, as it's usually somebody elses fault, and they are being treated unfairly.

Thanks for your question, take care and be well.

GAWhat do you think of people who park in parent and child places at supermarkets when they don't have any kids?
My wife parks in these spots not because she's lazy but because she does not respect the logic behind them. Children are not the only human beings - What about the elderly or women who don't want to take the risk of parking in unsafe areas (e.g. if the only alternative is a subterranean parking area)... Where the parent and child places don't completely dominate I doubt the behaviour you are talking about would happen and people like my wife would not be enraged.

It sounds to me that you are one of ';those type of people'; that too easily lap up privileges they haven't earned. How dare you be so self righteous? Are you so selfish (assuming you are a parent) that you haven't even noticed that there are far too many of those parent and child spaces to be anything like fair!? Up the revolution... Childless people's money is as good as anyone else's!!

Incidentally I agree that disabled parking is a different issue, and feel strongly that disabled people spaces should not be used by freeloaders. After all people don't choose to be disabled but they do choose to be parents! However I do find it very bizarre that so many car parks at venues in the UK have an excess of disabled parking (i.e. there are always numerous empty disabled bays).

P.S. Larger spaces AND closer to the entrance - HELLO... Hello... What's wrong with this picture?
It's lazy and unfair and is just as bad for those of us who use disabled spaces. But supermarkets are unlikely to get heavy handed because these people are also customers. It also bugs me when people park in the drop off zone because they're too idle to walk from the proper car park.

William J, you're attitude is disgusting. I hope you don't actually have kids if you intend to raise them with such a violent way of resolving issues!
i think some people are actually missing the point.

if a parent has older children they should be parking in normal spaces.

for people with babies or young children then they should have designated spaces. not necessarily close to the entrance but just larger so it makes life easier to get the babies in and out of the car.

i mean, parents, how many of you have had to struggle to get your kids in the car after doing your shopping because some dick has parked next to you so you cant even open the door.

    people, have some consideration!

as for disabled spaces, i've seen so many people use disabled spaces when they shouldnt, this is just down right unforgivable and the people doing it should be made to have a valid reason to park in a disabled spot!

at the end of the day, if they aren't meant to park in either space then there should be some kind of penalty regardless!

there are enough ordinary spaces to choose from, just pick one and stop hogging the ones you shouldnt be in.
I saw a woman with 3 teenage kids park in one yesterday so I did for spite!! I also have seen a mother with 2 young children park in a disabled space which was pathetic!!

No wonder children are fat, does it really matter how close you get to the front entrance, get rid of these spaces and make them all for the disabled.
    As Peter Kay once said ';me and mum went to asda today, we parked in that parent and child spot. Well....i'm with me mum, they dont put an age restriction on it do they?? Its right at front of shop its bostin!';

Seriously though does it really matter?? My 2 sisters have children and they say it hardly hurts just to walk a bit further. How does being a parent give you the privillige to have dedicated spaces? Your child can still run in front of a car at the front of the shop so safety doesnt come into it. Now parking in a disabled spot is what gets me mad because those people do actually struggle to walk further.
And who chuffin made them god of all parkin spaces ...they should be lucky just to have a car ne..mind a parkin space ..............catch the bus or why not walk ...ya know ya can do it ...

Would like to add that anyone parking in disabled area should have their ball chopped these people need the added room and deserve our respect all the time
The people who park in these spaces are selfish and generally arrogant as they seem to think they can do what they want whenever they want! The supermarkets should do something about it which should put a stop to it.
just key there car if they dont have kids thats what i do its there own fukin fault if my child had an accident caused by some1 parkin in child spaces without children id probably kick them that hard in the bollox they wouldnt ever had children
Doesn't bother me.they didn't have them when my children were young and we all managed. But parking in a disability space drives me wild.
People in a hurry. No to the fines. There is enough policing going on. Leave people alone and mind your business.
    Lazy and disgusting!!!
i know its annoying espeacily when u have children and cant a spare cark park space around that area they are just lazy
lazy people and also those that park in disabled bays too!
clever, never thought of that, might go and try it at asda later.

Would you support a law that would allow a parent to have doctors remove a baby's cliteral hood?

I'm not saying the whole clitoris like they do in Africa. The cliteral hood is known as the prepuce. Foreskin is the name of the prepuce in boys. It same type of skin that it is legal to have done to a baby boy.

So why shouldn't both be legal?Would you support a law that would allow a parent to have doctors remove a baby's cliteral hood?
Man, what is your deal with circumcision?Would you support a law that would allow a parent to have doctors remove a baby's cliteral hood?
Yes I would since it will do a girl exactly as much good as it will do a boy.

Girls produce more than twice the amount of smegma than boys do so it may even do them more good.

Boys get ';so many infections';???? Girls get ten infections for every one that boys get. Non-mutilated boys may be at less than a 1% risk of getting a UTI in their first year only, after that there is no greater risk for being non-';circumcised';. Girls face the risk of UTIs for their entire lives.

And who cares what the Bible says about it, it also says you can sell your daughter into slavery.

But really, I don't believe it is right to cut any child's genitals, that is for boys or girls.
    What would be the point?

Although many think that sanitation isn't an issue nowadays, it really is.

I've known a couple of older boys that had to have a circumcision done due to infections because of not washing properly.

Do you have a bone to pick mark?
What would the reason be for doing this?

Is there a medical problem that exists with clitoral hoods?

I do know that uncircumcized boys have higher incidences of infections of the penis.

    Therefore... circumcisions.
Oh shut up!! You can not even compare this to circumcision!
I guess circumcision showed exactly how small you are. Sorry.
    I don't sport a Ronnie Rollback - sometimes I wish I did.
i'm assuming that somewhere in the Bible they mention removing the clitoral hood?
    Never
No, that would be child abuse too.
    No.
why the Obsession with other peoples genitals?
    No
    What the Hel*?

  • Under the Texas laws, when you are 17 are you allowed to drop out of school without a parent permission?

Ok, i am about to be 17 next month and i hate it where i am living. My older sister has already talked to a attorney and they said i can leave and go live her because she is blood. My only problem is school. My question is when i turn 17 can i just drop out of school without my parents permission, move-in with my sister and do home schooling online?Under the Texas laws, when you are 17 are you allowed to drop out of school without a parent permission?
yes, you can drop out without your parents permission and i think it is AWESOME that you are still gonna be in school!! hope livin with your sister works out for you!! keep on ROCKIN!!! =DUnder the Texas laws, when you are 17 are you allowed to drop out of school without a parent permission?
I believe you have to be 18 to drop out of school in the State of Texas. And you definitely can't leave home until you are 18.

So I have a good plan for you. Excel your last year of school, get into a good college, move away from home and make something of your self...Always a much better plan then dropping out.
No - you may not drop out of school at 17. You are still a minor and your parents are still responsible for you. If you move in with your sister then you be come her responsibility and she must make you go to school.

You parents or sister will be held legally responsible if you do not attend class. This includes fines and possible jail time.

A way to get around this is to have your parents withdraw you and say they are going to home school you. There aren't any real checks on homeschooling.

If you aren't going to go to school - you should at least get your GED - you can't do anything really without it.
Nope. You're still a minor and are legally required to attend school.

I also point out to you that if you couldn't research this yourself, you're not ready to follow an online education.

Suck it up, finish out your time at home, graduate and bail.

Should the parent who worked less during the year claim the child?

My partner and I live together and have a child. Were not sure as to who should claim the child. My partner worked less than I did during the yearShould the parent who worked less during the year claim the child?
Not necessarily. You should complete tax forms twice, once with you claiming child and once with partner claiming child. It may be that there is a bigger advantage for the one who worked more, but maybe not.

Can my parent set up a trust to receive the distribution from an IRA?

my parent is turning 59.5 next year. she has no income and only a minimal hmo for insurance. she has virtually no savings but she has 15k from an IRA that's been sitting untouched for almost 10 years. she wants to apply for medicaid next year, but the IRA distribution may preclude it if she shows income on her tax returns. so, instead of her receiving the IRA distributions individually, can she: a) have it distributed to another individual; or b) have it distributed to a trust of some sort (i.e. some vehicle that will not affect her medicaid application)? if yes, what kind of trust? who should i talk to in order to get one set up for her. thanks. Can my parent set up a trust to receive the distribution from an IRA?
    1) She cannot have more than $2,000 of ';countable assets'; in her name to qualify for medicaid, in most states. check her state, maybe $1,500, etc. All IRA's are countable, as well as savings accounts, various other items.

    2) You apparantly know the rule about penalties (10%) for early withdrawal from retirement plans before age 59.5. Are you aware of the exceptions allowed in section 72(t) of the tax code? Some of those may help her. Go to www.irs.gov and search, or just google or yahoo 72(t).

    3) Trusts as a help? No way. Living or revocable, family, etc: they are still her assets. Irrevocable? They are gifts and you trigger a waiting period. Too complex for this discussion.

    4) I am wracking my brain over this concern about income precluding her benefits; how is that a problem? That applies to VA improved pension benefits, but here's how income applies to the medicaid formula: after her basic approval for medicaid, any monthly income she has, like social security, pension, annuity, and the like goes first to paying her medicaid expenses. She gets something like $42/month to spend at her discretion. Medicaid pays all remaining approved expenses. Past income doesn't matter, but they may ask what happened to the money. Legitimate expenses, no problem, but if you tried to hide money, pay relatives illegitimately, gift, etc, you trigger that waiting period again.

Hope this helps. You might consult an ';elder care attorney'; if more specifics are desired. I am a Chartered Financial Consultant who has done seminars including these matters for about 6 years; the field changes quite often. Can my parent set up a trust to receive the distribution from an IRA?
One more possible help. I think she may have the right to gift up to $1,000/per month to a relative or friend and not harm her benefits. You seldom hear that rule, I have not dealt with it.

Thanks for the kind words and choosing my answer; I sincerely hope this helps your mom.

If the distributions go to a trust, it must be an Irrevocable Trust.

It is better if she transfers the IRS to someone else's name whom she can trust, who will not squander the money. Also, I believe that the transfer must have occured 3 years previously before being eligible for Medicaid.

There is also such a thing as a Medicaid Trust that a lawyer specializing in trusts can set up. You may have to look into that too.
72t-have to start making distributions by age 70.5 years of age.

She does not have to take the distributions now, nor touch the money.

How old were you when you first became a parent?

I was 18. I got pregnant two months after graduating and had a girl two months before turning 19. I had my second daughter when I was 21. Were you married or dating or something else? I got married and still am. Just curious. How old were you when you first became a parent?
I was married at 18 baby at 19 and 21

married still to the same guy 32 yearsHow old were you when you first became a parent?
16 not married then got married to another man had a baby at 24 and still married to him 3 years later.
    first child 21 just dating

    second child 22 just dating

They have the same father but I doubt we get married
31 -- married (second child at 33). Still married -- happily.

I didn't want kids until I was 30, so for me, I hit the target. I traveled, finished school, etc. All things that were important to me to do before I had a family. I was still totally a kid at 22 when I graduated college, I am glad I waited. But different strokes for different folks.

Most moms I know got started in their 30's too -- so it was amazing to see how many of you babies have had babies! Good luck to all!
I was 22 when I had my daughter.

I was 21 when I got pregnant with her.
i was 33. got married when i was 28. had my second child at 34
I was married 6 months when I had my son at the age of 21, still married 2 years later. But the marriage is DEAD. Probably on the verge of getting a divorce.
I was 25 and married. My husband and I were together for more than 5 years before getting pregnant. I was 28 when I got pregnant with my second. I'm now 31 and pregnant with my third.
I was too young! 16. I am now married and have a 12 year old a 2 year old and am pregnant with my last.
I was 19, unmarried but in a long term relationship with the father of the child.
Married at 28, baby at 30.
I got married at 20, had my 1st child at 21 and my 2ed at 23. They were 16 months apart. I still am married too. Its been 4 years next month! Congrats to you too!
What a wonderful question to ask! I had been married for 2 yrs and got pregnant with my 1st child, a boy, at 23 years old. We had our 2nd child, a girl, 3.5 years later. Our youngest, and last child, a boy, is 2 years old. We love our kids and would love to have more, but we're waiting to see what the Lord has planned for us. God Bless!
I was 30 and my husband was 38. We had been married 10 years.
I was 23, had my own house, and a beautiful wife. I am now 37 and Love every minute of parenting. My Two children are the joy in my life.
31 for our first born, 36 for our second born. Married ten years before our first born arrived, having given a great deal of thought to how to be the kind of parents we wanted to be - which we could not have pulled off in our twenties.
I was 18 when I had my first baby.
I was 29 when I had my son. I turned 30 three weeks later.

I have been married for 7yrs and we tried for 6 yrs to have our son who will be 1 tomorrow.
I was 18,got pregnant with my son 3 months after being married, had my daughter at 23,stayed married til my son was 20 and daughter was 15 then divorced.
Daughter at 20, son at 21, left the loser, couldn't be happier!
18 turned 19 two months later.
I was 30..And although somedays (she is now 5) I wish I would have had her younger...but then again..if I had her when I was younger I would have never gotten the chance to be a kid/teenager, have a life and travel the world. I'm very fortunate to have gotten to live my life and see things. And count my lucky stars everyday..because I didn't think I could have children. She is a miracle baby that was meant to be.
    19
    20,2 months shy of 21
I was in love with being in love at 32 and had a baby at 33 and now am a single mother.
Me and my husband dated from the time we were 15 years old until we got married just this last valentine's day.

We have been together now for 11 years. (We are 26 %26amp; 27 now).

I got pregnant when i was 21 years old and it was planned. My son now is 5 years old.

I am not sure i am ready yet to have another kid though.

I don't have babies but my mum had her first when she was fourteen and second when she was sixteen. That was back in the days where it was a huge shame on the family to have children out of wedlock and she got sent to a sheep station for the pregnancies. The children were adopted out and she didn't have me until she was 33 and had been married two years. The two girls both got n touch with mum within two months of each other and neither knew the other. Spooky.
i was 26 my wife was 19 we are still married and wife is having our second child in march at 21
i'm sorry but you screwed your life you shouldn't have done that

but bless your soul for not having an abortion and being a parent

How do i comfort someone who has lost a parent?

My boyfriend lost his mom 2 years ago, when he talks to me about it, i am left speechless, i don`t know how to respond.. =(

i feel useless.. i want to be there for him .. %26amp; i want him to know that he can talk to me. He told me he was very angry a couple months ago, everything set him off... i just don`t know how to deal with this. How do i comfort someone who has lost a parent?
Just listening is a big help. It will get easier for him as time goes on. I have lost two children so I know a bit about loss. My son was killed October 31st of 2004 and I didn't think I could make it through my grief and come out with a normal life but I have. It takes time and anger is one way people deal with loss. As long as he does not take his anger out on you then just be there when he wants to talk about things. There isn't anything anyone can say to make a person who has had a loved one die feel better. Telling him that his mom would want him to be happy won't help. Everyone kept telling me that my son would want me to be happy and they just made me angry. Listening and lots of hugs will be the best way to help him.How do i comfort someone who has lost a parent?
I wish I knew what to tell you. My father died 6 months ago and it seems nothing anyone says or does really helps much. It just takes time to accept and adjust to life without your loved one.

All I can suggest is to always be there to listen to him and reassure him the best you can. It's not a problem anyone can help to fix. Everyone deals with it differently and on their own terms.

Two years does seem to be a long time though. It might help him to see a therapist, there may be other underlying issues involved.
It is the biggest lost in life. But of course you can be there as friend . Try to make him realise that it is the biggest loss but his mum would not be happy if he will be sad and angry but for her mum's sake he has to move on in life and do things her mother would have been proud off.
My husbands mom died over 2 years ago...he still has his moments....but what I have realized is that when he is feeling that way...all he really wants is a hug and a listening ear.....not for anyone to ';fix'; how he was feeling b/c no one can replace a mom (or anyone else that has died)...Just be a good listener...make eye contact...let him reminisce....and everything will be ok ...just give it time....and offer the shoulder he needs to lean on....Good luck!
Well, theres really nothing that you can do to deal with it and to help him with it.

He has to get passed it on his own, that is the only way, no amount of advice will help him in this situation.

The only thing to do is listen.
Give them a hug. Let him tell you about his mum as that is part of his healing process.

My husband thinks he is an heir to his grandfathers property. I told him not unless his parent was deceased?

His Grandfather had 5 children and they are all still living so the property goes to the 5 living children. What is the Louisiana Law on succession, Does it even apply in this case because the property is adjudicated. Can the children get the property back? Or someone else that is not next of kin?My husband thinks he is an heir to his grandfathers property. I told him not unless his parent was deceased?
It would depend a great deal on what is in the decedent's will about who was to inherit what property. Usually, the property and money go to immediate descendants which are the children, then the children of those children would inherit the share that their parents inherited, if there is more than one sibling to each grandchild, which your husband is, then it would normally be split evenly in equal shares. Then on down the line.My husband thinks he is an heir to his grandfathers property. I told him not unless his parent was deceased?
the 5 living children get first dibs, only if the grandfather specifically put ur husband as an heir in his will then the natural flow of parent to child will insue, it could be in the will.. who knows, and his parents would get it before him , he would likely only ever see 1?5th or even 1/10th of the estate, thats if his parents decide to leave him any, its their money regardless of how anyone feels about it
he is an heir but not the first in line if you know what i mean. that is assuming someone leaves him something.

  • If your parent went to a college that you apply to, does that increase your chances?

My mom and her brother (my uncle) both graduated from Tufts. Does this increase my chances of getting in?If your parent went to a college that you apply to, does that increase your chances?
Many schools give preference to those with relatives who graduated there since these kids will have a higher chance of accepting their offer to attend.

According to Princetonreview.com, the importance of alumni/ae relations at Tufts is rated ';considered,'; making it about as important in admissions as things like the interview and minority status. Follow the link to see more.If your parent went to a college that you apply to, does that increase your chances?
Neither of my parents attended college. They both have high school diplomas. I was still able to get into a good university. Chances are that if your parents went to college you may be more likely to attend because of values. Many times they do not look at family history unless your family has donated a nice chunk of change to the university. Study and work hard, that's what is going to get you in.
I believe it does, apply and see what happens. Good Luck!
Yes, it does increase your chances. With some other schools, especially public universities, it helps little or not at all, but it definitely help with private schools.
Depends on the school. MIT does not consider it, but Harvard definitely does. Call Tufts admissions office and ask them if they give preference to children of alums. They will answer you honestly and will now more about Tufts than anyone who answers here.
Yes, it usually helps. Especially if they were good students, or they were active alumni, or they contributed money. It also tells the school that you have a higher level of understanding of what the schools about compared to most applicants.
Especially if they were generous to the school.

Is it too much to expect parents to continue to parent while at the playground?

I know it is a nice break to be able to socialize while your children run around and act like little terrors, but it sure takes away from the fun my son and I are trying to have in the meantime.

And, is it asking too much that you don't leave your kid's sippy cups and snacks sitting right next to the sand box?Is it too much to expect parents to continue to parent while at the playground?
People like that bother me a lot, because it seems to be so common in my neighborhood. I'm a paranoid person so if I see a child unattended with their parents standing halfway across the park, I keep an eye on them. If I see children misbehaving to the point they could hurt someone, I will keep an eye on them. I wind up playing with 15 kids instead of just my 3. I feel like I spend so much time keeping an eye on other peoples kids that I don't have as much fun with MY kids.

I know that part of this is MY character flaw, but part of the problem is theirs. If people are taking their kids out, they need to remember they're still parents no matter how many of their friends are around.

I think it is irresponsible to think the park is a place to just set your kids free and ignore them.Is it too much to expect parents to continue to parent while at the playground?
How about letting your child go and play with the other kids while you supervise? I've always treated playground time as a time for the kids to socialize with other kids, and not a time where it's Mommy playtime. We have a yard for that. Its a big world, and parents have to learn to let their kids go in small steps. The playground is the first step for many.
We had an experience like this this weekend. A boy slapped my son on the face for no reason and then pushed my nephew down off the slide. This kid was a terror! And his parents were NO WHERE TO be found.. So if they aren't going to get on to him, I will and I did! It wasn't the fact that he was a brat, bc I know a lot of kids are, including mine sometimes, but I was really ticked that his parents were no where around to get on to him. So I took it upon myself to do so.
Apparently you ran into my sons. I believe kids need to figure out how to interact with other kids, on their terms. They need to be evenly matched of course, but unless the boys are horrendous they are on their own.

Of course, we don't take snacks anywhere they can walk around with, it stays where I am and they sit with food.
Guess you had a bad experience today. I agree that parents need to keep an eye out for their children no matter where they are... and yeah, the sippy cup and snack should be no where near the sand box... yuck.
LOL no it is not to much to ask I guess people really do need to keep a good eye on their kids.

BTW I love the pic of your shelties I have a shetland sheep dog
    ';it sure takes away from the fun my son and I are trying to have';

So does being wound so tightly, I imagine.
    Amen!

For many parents that seems to be true. Personally, I don't get how so many moms are able to just plop down with a book while they let their small children play. I know that older children aren't in as much danger, but toddlers need that supervision to stay safe.

Last time we were at the park I watched a mom who was there with her 5 year old (she proudly told me she was 5!), her 2 year old (I heard her say to her friends), and her new baby. Her 5 year old kept showing off for me because, well, I was actually watching everyone play and she wanted someone to acknowledge that she existed, and her 2 year old boy kept pushing the other little kids, throwing mulch at them, took a baby's hat, lost his shoe and couldn't find it because no one was watching where he lost it, pushed some more little kids down etc. Her baby was hungry and was fed while Mom sat next to the car seat and held the bottle; Baby didn't even get to be held.

I also watched a little girl who couldn't be older than 2 1/2 keep running into the trees away from the playground. Mom, with no other kids to occupy her attention, just sat on the bench talking to her friend and would threaten ';Do you want to go home? Play or we're going home';. Aside from the fact that she said this a good 6 or 7 times but never did anything, all her little girl wanted was someone to give her attention.

I don't understand the lack of parenting that happens when kids go to the park. I do get that it's a nice chance to step back and let kids play with each other with minimal intervention, and my 2 year old loves making sure I'm settled where I can watch him and talk to him, and then telling me ';Stay here. Go play me'; while he runs off to play with the kids his age. But, that doesn't give me permission to just tune out and not pay attention to what he's doing and tracking where he's going and make sure he's happy and safe.

As a parent of 2 children am I entitled to view the statements of their trust fund?

I have 2 children aged 16 and 19.They have an educational trust fund left to them by an aunt.I am not a trustee but I am thier Mom who would liketo see that the trustees are doing a good job of managing the funds and how they are allocated. One of the trustees said I cannot view the statements because I was not a trustee.Do I legally have a right to view thier statements? As a parent of 2 children am I entitled to view the statements of their trust fund?
It depends. Being a mother is not the point here.

For the 16 year old, yes, you can SEE the statements, but only if you are their legal guardian. You can then bring legal action against the trustee if necessary for the interests of the minor.

The 19 year old, unless you live in Mississippi, is past the age of majority, so no.

Why would anyone think that a lesbian or gay parent would run contrary to the well being of a child?

Since when is sexual orientation a prerequisite for being a good parent?

GWS's users what are your thoughts? Why would anyone think that a lesbian or gay parent would run contrary to the well being of a child?
I would have liked to have had loving, sane parents, and that's what I wish for all children, regardless of the sexual orientation of the children or parents. Since quite a few heterosexual parents neglect, beat, rape, and abandon their children, I don't think heterosexuals are the best role models or parents, but I don't think they're the worst either, there's just more of them!

On the other hand, literally hundreds of research studies have proven that lesbian and gay couples are just as good parents, if not better, than heterosexual couples, and their children are no more likely to have ';issues'; or be gay or straight, then if the children had been raised by heterosexuals.

Since gay and lesbian couples often have to go through a lot to have kids, their children are definitely wanted children, that were planned for, unlike quite a few children of heterosexuals, who are accidents, that have to be taken care of, whether the parents wanted them or not.Why would anyone think that a lesbian or gay parent would run contrary to the well being of a child?
Because we are all a product of our environment and all the good intentions in the world won't change that.
    Gosh that's a slippery slope isn't it.

There are moral/religious reasons. There are those who feel that since a child's best model for adult relationships begins within the parent child relationship, that children of such parentage could have a skewd view of a world that is largely unaccepting of this life choice.

But by this same reasoning we could say that there could be no mixed race placements, or we could say that there could be no cross religious placements. I mean the list is endless. We forget what is of utmost importance.

Love and respect is of the greatest interest to any child. Meeting their physical and emotional needs should be above all other concerns. There are far too many children who do not have the experience of a loving nurturing family to judge too harshly anyone willing to give so deeply of themselves independent of life choice factors. If the parents were engaged openly in illegal or illicit activities which introduce the child to harm I'd consider finding another family for the children. So far as I know, homosexuality is not illegal in the U.S.
Because they are homophobic. The subject has been investigated by the APA (to provide merely one example) at length: there is absolutely not a shred of evidence supporting histrionic speculations of the homophobes.
There is no scientific evidence that indicates other than gays being good parents, on average.

I would think that people need to be encouraged to be parents to our many abandoned children.
The well being of a child depends on the child having both a mother and a father. Having lesbian or gay parents would probably preclude that. I don't know why that is so hard to understand. Love is not enough. I completely understand the desire to have a child, but it is selfish to purposely deny a child a mother or a father. They are equally necessary and important.
gay or straight, as long as there is love and respect in the household. there are many children waiting for loving homes - being heterosexual shouldn't be a requirement.
there is no evidence that gay parents raise gay kids or that they are not as fit to be parents than heterosexual couples.
I don't know why. I know my friend of many years told me that her mom and friend that always lived together were gay. Which they are really good kids but they are private about their life because of the way people are. That's life in a small town for ya. Her and her 2 sisters are very nice and popular, they aren't rich but they carry themselves well.
    i do not think this.

i do have strong moral beliefs..

but my belief that a child should be raised by 2 loving parents..whether straight or gay...goes past my moral beliefs.

    its a love thing baby!
im sure its fine until say the child reaches school age thats when the problems start......... unfair to the child . They have to explane to peers why they have two mommys %26lt;or daddys%26gt;......... im sure as u all know kids can be very cruel At this age im very sure the child will learn to hide lie anything so as not to incounter the abuse he/she will recieve from his/her peers

' think about it'; ';Well being of a child'; raising a child in that inviorment cannot be deemed good
gay or straight parents, it makes no difference really. they could be good parents or they could be bad parents. as long as the child grows up around all different types of people, they learn all kinds of things not just from their parents but from teachers, other adults, other children, etc. so I don't believe it affects anything at all.
Personally I think the mere fact that lesbians and gays can't naturally have children alone makes them unqualified to raise children, as it goes against evolution. From a more sociological relevant viewpoint however, I think its cruel and unfair to the child. Homosexuality is still taboo in most of the world, and carries quite a stigma here in America, then you place a child in their care. How will society reflect upon them?

A lot of gays are so zealously eager to challenge the norms that they don't even consider the child. Perhaps a gay woman can be a good mother, or even a gay man can be a good father, however, that child will always be different from the norm. After all, the family unit is the chief social building block of civilization. Sexual orienatation may not be a prerequisite to being a 'good' parent, but rather, it is a prerequistite to being a parent period.
I believe that for a child to mature into a healthy adult, it needs strong role models and examples from both genders, but this in no way precludes lesbian or gay parents from bringing up a child well.

I do think it is especially important where there are same sex parents that the child has good role models of both genders who play a strong and active part in their development, which equally well applies to children being raised by lone parents.

It takes a village to raise a child, whether you are one of the village people or not.

*edit - it might also be added that for a child of heterosexual parents to have healthy attitudes towards homosexuals, they should also see that same sex relationships can be loving and healthy too. The cake crumbles both ways on this one*
Because it's unusual, and the people who think this way fear the unknown. I know gay people who would make better parents than me any day.
I had to think about it quit a bit but what i found in Romans one answered my questions and maybe the beginnings of chapter two
I really have no clue. Good and bad parents come from every culture, socioeconomic background, race, religion etc. I don't see why sexual preference is or should be any different.

lala- With your belief, is it safe to assume you are against single parents?
I would like my child to tolerate and respect homosexuals, but not to think of them as examples, or role models, in sexual orientation matters.
Oh they want the well being of a child . But how two woman can be the father figure Its undouable Its the same for two man they just cannot replace the mother figure a child need Like it or not its a fact
