I need to know what the policy is for having a partner/boyfriend stay overnight as i do not want to get into trouble or have my benefit stopped for allowing him to stay too much. I have tried to look on the benefits website but there seems to be no information about this. I have been told there was a 3 day policy and i have also been told that partners /boyfriends are not allowed to stay at all, now i am confused!!!!!!!!!!How many nights a week can my boyfriend stay if i am on lone parent benefit?
I had a friend in the same position, and up till last year it was the 3 night policy. As far as I'm aware it hasn't changed since then. xHow many nights a week can my boyfriend stay if i am on lone parent benefit?

3 nights any longer he is liable to pay rent.
3 nights a week and a new week starts on sunday!!! About to have a baby i needed to know for when the baby gets here sleepless nights hehehe ( i want him to have some)
From what i believe of this rule (my friend went through this) is there is a difference between 'visiting' and 'staying', it is down to the wording. You are allowed visitors, even if it is overnight (how can they prove he slept, you could say you were talking all night). I would check it out from citizens advice but I am sure this is right.
I think it is 3 nights a week.
Edit: Claire - wow he has never 'officially' lived there, does that mean that you have claimed as a single parent all these years, its great paying taxes towards people that dont actually need them.
I always thought it was 3 nights, but i couldnt tell you for sure.
At the time I was seing my husband as a single parent it was 3 nights and someone DID dob me in to DHSS and I was spied on by said DHSS. They knew where he lived, how often he come round, when he stayed and my wareabouts during day time. We were horrified that they took it that far just because some nosey neighbour reported it for their 拢50 reward.
They had to tell me after the three weeks spying to say it was unfounded!!
I would not mind but all I claimed was rent rebate and wages topped up by family credit discusting!
It is most definatly 3 nights and just be careful I trusted my road at the time.
It's about 3 nights
3 days.
anymore makes him elligable for rent payment as its most of a week
4 nights a week. Who is going to know though if he is there all week? Before we had our 1st baby together and bought a house, my boyfriend used to stay over between 5-7days a week. with me and my daughter. He was never 'officially' living with me, but he may as well have been.
just be careful!we got grassed up to the social thanks to another nosy neighbour and the benefits agency said that anything more than a 1 night stopover is seen as co-habiting and we could either guarantee it would be a 1 night stopover or we could go on a joint tax credits claim, we chose the tax credits!i think it may vary from area to area
4 nights.. do you have to ask so many times..
my sister is in the same boat atm and she has phoned housing and been told as long as her partner is registered at another address and not paying towards any of her bills etc he can stay as long as he likes!!
give your local office a quick ring and ask you may be surprised
good luck x x
0 you have to declare that he sometimes stays over once a week or so, go into the job centre and ask them but just say you have started seeing someone and was wondering if they are allowed to stay over but say he isn't at the moment if they ask.
the DSS make up the rules as thy go, if someone grasses you to the DSS that your boyfriend stays at night the DSS investigators will monitor him coming and going 3 nights is meant to be the max per week but the DSS start to go into dose he pay you any money or buy /pay to help you run your household DSS work in funny ways and can class 1 night as cohabiting DSS are on the ball now days and sly
it did at 1 point be for 3 days a week but i have heard that it had changed but i am not 100% sure about this. the best thing to do is to annomoulsy phone up your local dwp office and ask them and then maybe repeat this a couple of timkes extra just to make sure
stop trying to milk the system! taxes are high enough as it is!
there isnt a limit on how many nights they can stop just has long they aint eating your food paying towards your bills no clothes or any mail at your house ive use to have the same problem then 1day when a woman came out from the dwp i asked how many nights they could stop and she told me what ive just told you it was only 9mths ago
