Has anyone else noticed that in Disney movies a common theme is a dead or absent parent?

I can count on one hand how many of the Disney animated movies that have actually both mom and dad present....Why do you think that is? I always found that odd.Has anyone else noticed that in Disney movies a common theme is a dead or absent parent?
That's actually a REALLY great question.

The answer is the following: LOTS of disney movies are adaptations from the stories the Grimm Brothers recorded. The Grimm brothers grew up with one parent. As you know, lots of times, an authors story is influenced a lot by his/ her real life.

So this is the reason why many disney movies only have one parent.

I hope I helped.Has anyone else noticed that in Disney movies a common theme is a dead or absent parent?
Few Disney movies are original Disney stories, they are already like that. Cinderella, Snow White, etc. But as for the ones that are Disney originals, they do it because it creates more drama. Its formulaic and it works. I love Disney, but sometimes the one parent thing is just too sad for me, like when Mufasa dies, or when the fox and the hound mom dies, its so sad. But see, you create that sadness at the beginning and the happy ending is that much happier.
It's true. Books and doctoral theses have been written on this topic. I think the reason is that these stories are almost always about children learning how to make their way in the world (in other words, growing up). And part of growing up is learning to cope with loss. As horrifying as it is for young viewers to contemplate the loss of a parent, they may be reassured by the fact that the protagonist ultimately succeeds, drawing primarily on his or her own inner resources. If Bambi or Simba or Cinderella can safely navigate the obstacle course of childhood and adolescence, even without a parent, then maybe you can too.
yes i've noticed. Pocahontas only has a father, so does chicken little and Belle from Beauty and the beast. The kid from toy story only has a mom. Bambi lost his mom, so did Nemo, and Ariel. Simba lost his dad, Hercules lost both at first and had to be adopted. I can go on and on with the examples. Disney does have a thing for this theme, very interesting, i wonder why they do this. The only time i can recall a typical nuclear family, 2 parents, 2 or 3 kids is in the incredibles
It helps the story line. So many other movies do the same.
